Raivo, who streams as Rasta and uses the handle @rastalandTV, launched CANCER as part of a public campaign to raise money and awareness while undergoing treatment for stage 4 sarcoma. He has been sharing updates about his condition and fundraising progress on social media and during pump fun livestreams.
He later posted that during a livestream someone convinced him to download what appeared to be a verified Steam game. After installing it, Raivo said the game was malicious and drained about $32,000 in creator fees he had earned on pump fun. The post has reached over 1.4 million views.
The incident spread quickly across Crypto Twitter. Under the same post, @EasyEatsBodega commented that he would donate $10,000 directly to Raivo.
Alex Becker said he would send Raivo the full $32,000 that was hacked from him.
Jakey, founder of BASEDD House, also showed support and said he would buy the coin and see if there was anything else he could help with.
People began buying CANCER shortly after, both to restore the lost funds and show support. After Raivo redirected his creator fees to a secure wallet, onchain activity spiked from about $79,000 market cap to a new all-time high of $11.5 million.
On September 22, Moist Critical, a youtuber with over 17M subscribers, uploaded a video exposing the individual responsible for stealing fees from Raivo. The video quickly went viral. In it, he broke down the entire situation and revealed the identity of the person who tricked Raivo into installing the malicious game on his laptop.
Since the incident and the initial loss, Raivo has managed to recover strongly, earning over $70,000 in creator fees in addition to community donations sent directly to his wallet.
