The coin Pumpfun Pepe appeared on October 2, shortly after people pointed out that every pump fun account is automatically given the same profile picture: a plain Pepe.
The observation kicked off a coordinated movement. People began swapping their X profile pictures to the same generic Pepe, creating a cult-like visual across accounts.
Alon, the co-founder of pump fun, had already commented in August about pfps being used in unison, calling it a sign of conviction and a return to tradition. He highlighted how group pfps reflect longer-term community plays, a narrative which the Pepe community used to their advantage.
On November 2, PFP rallied further after pump fun announced their new monthly banner on X, which sees a cohort of exclusive communities featured at the start of every month. This was the first time that the PFP community earned a place on the monthly banner, leading to increased speculation on the potential upside of being in the PFP community.
After the banner update, PFP surged by more than 100% which was also highlighted by @PumpfunNewsfeed.
Pumpfun Pepe holders noticed that Ansem bought PFP, adding more visibility to the coin and contributing to the surge. He’s known for bullposting dogwifhat, which reached a $4.83 all-time high.
The pump fun banner change and Ansem buying the coin sparked a new surge, with PFP jumping from a $1.1M market cap to $3M. As of November 3, PFP hit an all-time high of $9.6M, and the creator earned over $260K in Creator Rewards.
