Nick O’Neill, known online as @chooserich, posted a long thread on May 22 explaining his Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis and treatment plan. The thread included details about a chest biopsy that caused a lung deflation, consultations with oncologists, and his decision to choose ABVD chemotherapy over Nivolumab-AVD immunotherapy because of limited long term data and personal medical considerations.
The thread spread widely across crypto Twitter and brought a large wave of support from traders, creators, and influencers.
As support continued growing, crypto figure Mayne suggested that Nick should create a GoFundMe so people could help financially during treatment. Nick replied that asking people for money felt uncomfortable to him.
That exchange led to more people saying financial support should not even be a debate given the situation. Soon after, someone launched RICH and redirected the token fees to Nick’s wallet. Orangie later referenced the token publicly as people on X started talking about it.
A short time later, Nick acknowledged the token and shared its contract address after receiving thousands of requests for it.
At the same time, Nick was live on stream, and a clip of his reaction began circulating across X shortly afterward.
The next day, Nick received hateful messages about the token and responded by saying that if people wanted to keep hating, he would keep posting it since the fees were helping support his cancer treatment. He ended the post with “Fuck the haters. Fuck cancer. Choose Rich.”
