Merck and Moderna reported positive Phase 3 results for intismeran, their personalized cancer vaccine, when used with KEYTRUDA in melanoma patients who had undergone surgery.
Intismeran is personalized using mutations found in each patient’s tumor. Researchers analyze the tumor, then create an mRNA treatment designed to target up to 34 tumor specific markers. In the Phase 3 trial, Intismeran combined with KEYTRUDA significantly improved how long patients remained cancer free and reduced the risk of cancer spreading compared with KEYTRUDA alone.
The trial met its main goals early, marking the first positive Phase 3 result for an individualized mRNA cancer therapy. Professor Georgina Long, the trial’s principal investigator, called the results a “landmark moment for adjuvant melanoma treatment.”
Moderna stock, MRNA surged over +100% following the trial results. The Kobeissi Letter highlighted the move in a post about the announcement.
