Dirty COW (DIRTYCOW): Dirty COW is a bug in Linux that lets a normal user on the machine secretly become an admin (root). In simple terms: Linux tries to save memory by letting multiple programs share the same data until one of them changes it (this is called copy-on-write, or COW). Dirty COW is a mistake in that system which lets a normal user repeatedly “race” the kernel and eventually change data that is supposed to be read‑only, like protected system files, effectively giving themselves higher permissions.
