I normally don't treat pumpfun to share my feeling, but I figured this story was worth sharing. One of the other cats I feed (most likely totally feral) got pregnant and had two kittens in my barn. I don't know what happened to the other one :-( but this kitten stuck around and got comfortable about eating the food off the porch. He lived outside with his mom, and everything seemed to be fine...but one morning, when I was supposed to go on vacation, I heard slushy meowing in an anguished way. I went outside, and he was wet and and stiff. He looked like he was dying! So I freaked out, got a blanket, found the cage and left with him in it. Luckily, the people at the hospital were wrong about him having experienced some trauma like they thought at first (yet, I'm sure this was still a traumatic experience for him...). He was just really cold which is why he was stiff and distressed. So, they warmed him up, dried him off, and sent us home with some de-wormers and anti-biotics. Unfortunately, when I got home, he was only about 6 weeks old so he couldn't adapt to being without his mother and didn't trust me at all. I tried just being sweet and giving him food, but he was just really upset and scared the whole time. He was so scared of me, that he even jumped off the top landing in my house...which is about 30 feet high. Of course I learned that for a kitten past the first stage of their infancy (the eyes are closed and the mother has to help them defecate), this is nothing as long as they land properly. So he just kept running in fear, and the only way I could help him was to put the mother inside with him, and things got a lot easier and better after that. Of course, kittens can be kinda annoying, they just want to play all the time, but it's totally worth it, and he has learned to be comfortable around me and other people. Here's him with his mom:
