Someone remotely hacked the main computer units (controllers) that manage large refrigerated display cases with food in European supermarkets. Instead of keeping the products cold, the hackers forcibly turned off the refrigeration and cranked the temperature up to +50 °C. Because of this, tons of meat, fish, and dairy products in the stores simply spoiled and rotted, and the supermarkets suffered massive losses. All of this happened due to security flaws in old or poorly protected software.
