MEENA ELEPHANT IN THAILAND (MEENA)
Pang Mina, a wild elephant calf who strayed from her herd in March 2023 and fell into a villager's pond near the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex, was moved to the Wildlife Rescue Center 2 (Krabak Koo) in early April 2023. There, she was raised alongside "Nong Tula," another lost elephant calf. Sadly, Nong Tula passed away on August 13th due to severe injuries and shock from both front legs being broken. Yesterday evening (November 28th, 2023), Pang Mina underwent a practice session of getting on and off a truck, along with a health checkup and screening for major infectious diseases. She then departed from the Wildlife Rescue Center 2 (Krabak Koo) in Chachoengsao province to the National Elephant Institute (Thai Elephant Conservation Center) at 8:00 AM today. A team of veterinarians accompanied and cared for Pang Mina throughout the journey. Upon arrival, veterinarians weighed her, and she was found to be almost 300 kilograms. She was then taken to the elephant care area located behind the Mahout School within the Thai Elephant Conservation Center, where a spacious and shaded enclosure awaits her.
