The character design (a grey cat with a Pop-Tart body) was created by artist Christopher "Prguitarman" Torres, who posted a drawing of the cat, called "Nyan Cat," on his blog in 2010. A separate person, Canadian teenager Christopher Bosh... no — it was saraj00n, who combined Torres's cat GIF with the song "Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!" by Japanese vocaloid producer daniwellP, featuring vocals from the Vocaloid character Hatsune Miku. The combined video — an animated pixel cat with a rainbow trailing behind it, flying through space on loop, set to the repetitive high-pitched "nyan" song — was uploaded to YouTube on April 5, 2011, titled "Nyan Cat [original]."
