claude-buddy is an open-source remake of the /buddy terminal pet companion launched by Claude Code on April Fool's Day 2026. After the original version was removed in v2.1.97, this project has rebuilt the entire companion system through stable extension points such as MCP, Status Line, and Hooks, supporting features like 18 ASCII animals, rarity colors, personality stats, session comments, and more. It does not rely on binary patches, is completely open-source, and can be used permanently with any version of Claude Code.
