In April 2025, a Wake County deputy entered an unlocked Raleigh home to serve a civil summons. No one was home, but family dog Zelda (8-9 yr old Belgian Malinois) was confined in the kitchen and barking. The deputy opened the door and shot Zelda multiple times, killing her. Sheriff's office claimed she bit him; family says surveillance shows she posed no threat and was shot almost immediately. Deputy was cleared in internal investigation (June 2025) and reinstated. Family devastated—no charges or discipline. Case highlights concerns over police home entry for civil matters and lethal force on pets. #JusticeForZelda
