The Ahool is a legendary cryptid said to inhabit the dense rainforests of Java, Indonesia. Described as a giant bat or flying primate, the creature is named after the loud "a-hoool" cry it reportedly makes. Witnesses claim it has a wingspan of about 10 feet (3 meters), a flat, ape-like face, large eyes, and greyish fur. Unlike normal bats, the Ahool is often reported to have characteristics similar to primates, leading some to speculate it could be an unknown species of flying primate or a giant bat like the large fruit bats of Southeast Asia. Sightings typically describe it flying over rivers or through the jungle canopy, and it is said to be nocturnal. Although there is no scientific evidence for its existence, the Ahool continues to be a popular figure in cryptozoology and Indonesian folklore.
