A California man has gone viral after revealing he bought an apartment on a cruise ship because it works out cheaper than living on land. Austin Wells, from San Diego, paid $300,000 for a 12-year lease on a 237-square-foot studio aboard the MV Narrative, a residential cruise ship designed for people who want to live and work while travelling the world. Wells, who works remotely, said the floating lifestyle allows him to keep his job while visiting destinations across the globe. The ship is expected to feature around 500 residences along with amenities including a gym, swimming pool, cinema, library and even a school. He estimates his monthly housing costs will be around $2,000, significantly less than the average rent in San Diego, making the unusual move a practical financial decision as well as an adventure.
