A 13-year-old Shih Tzu named Oddy became a symbol of bravery and hope after being trapped in a burning house in Barangay Paciano Bangoy, Davao City. According to the report from Metro Davao United Fire and Rescue Inc., Oddy was trapped inside the burning house for almost 30 minutes before the rescuers finally heard his faint barks. As the fire continued to rage, Oddy forced himself to bark and breathe amid the thick smoke to get the rescuers' attention. According to witnesses, the desperation and courage of the elderly dog were palpable, as if he knew there was still a chance to survive. Fortunately, one rescuer heard the continuous barks and immediately went to investigate. Upon seeing Oddy, he was having difficulty breathing and was weakened, but alive. He was given first aid right away and rushed to the Davao Emergency Veterinary Hospital for further treatment. One of the rescuers said, "Oddy has such strong willpower. Even though he was struggling so much, he still barked just so we could hear him. If it weren't for him, we might not have known there was still someone left inside." According to the hospital's report, Oddy is continuing to recover after inhaling thick smoke. Although still weak, he is eating and recognizing the people who saved him. Many netizens and pet lovers have expressed their concern and admiration for the dog's resilience. For animal enthusiasts, Oddy's story is not just one of survival, but of hope. At 13 years old, he showed that courage knows no bounds in terms of beings or age. Many Davaoeños have also expressed their gratitude to the rescuers who didn't give up until the dog was saved.
