THERESIA

In the far east of Indonesia, in Ngada Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, a girl named Theresia harbors a big dream. Every day, she walks long distances through rocky, scorching heat—removing her shoes. Not by choice, but because of limitations. Her cracked soles are silent testimony to the struggle of a child who refuses to give up. Yet behind Theresia's spirit, there's still a voice that hasn't been sufficiently heard. The PPI (Disability Law) promises 22 guaranteed rights—including the right to a decent education and unhindered access. But reality often says otherwise. Theresia isn't just a barefoot child; she may also be one of thousands of children with disabilities in remote areas whose basic rights are still denied by a lack of facilities, attention, and understanding. There's both a sense of emotion and anger at witnessing this contrast: sky-high regulations, but their implementation still stumbles. Theresia's dream is simple—she wants to go to school, she wants equality. And we all have a moral obligation to ensure that he and other children not only dream, but can achieve it... with proper footwear, and hearts that no longer doubt that the state is truly present.
