Multipath Reliable Connection (MRC) is a new, open-source network transport protocol designed to enhance large-scale AI training by spreading data across hundreds of network paths simultaneously. Announced on May 6, 2026, by a consortium including OpenAI, Microsoft, NVIDIA, AMD, Broadcom, and Intel, this protocol addresses limitations in traditional RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) over Ethernet, providing higher resilience and performance in AI data centers.
