The Swoosh is the logo of Nike, an American athletic footwear and apparel company. Today, it has become one of the best-known logos in the world and the most valuable, estimated at US$26 billion/billion. Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight founded Nike on January 25, 1964, as Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS). After changing its name to Nike, Inc. on May 30, 1971, the company adopted the Swoosh as its official logo that same year. Carolyn Davidson, a student at Portland State University, where she studied there, created the logo, trying to convey movement in its design. The logo has undergone small transformations since the original design in 1971: nowadays, although it is commonly seen with just the "swoosh", for much of its history the logo has incorporated the NIKE inscription next to the Swoosh. Over the years, red and white color palettes have been used in the logo, although more recently the solid black logo has gained greater popularity. The Swoosh has also appeared in conjunction with the "Just do It" slogan since 1988. Together, these two items form the core of the Nike brand, having been the face of the company, with major athletes and sports teams around the world sporting the logo.
