It is real, and I remember. Shazaam (as remembered) After the death of their mother, a teenage boy and his younger sister move into their fathers house. While moving and searching through their mother's belongings in the attic, they discover an old magical lamp and accidentally summon Shazaam, a wisecracking genie with a surprising connection to their family. The children soon learn that Shazaam had been friends with their mother long before they were born. As the story unfolds, the genie helps the siblings cope with their loss while revealing stories from their mother's past. Through magical adventures and heartfelt lessons, Shazaam encourages the teenage son to overcome his resentment toward his father and rebuild their strained relationship. Meanwhile, the younger sister hopes to use a wish to help her lonely father find happiness and love again. The film's opening serves as an origin story for the friendship between Shazaam and the children's mother. On a rainy evening years earlier, a young girl and her mother are waiting for a taxi when an opportunity unexpectedly presents itself. Unbeknownst to them, the taxi driver is Shazaam, a genie trapped in service to an unpleasant master. Seeing a chance to gain his freedom, he urges the young girl to touch the magical lamp resting on the floor of the cab. When she does, ownership of the lamp transfers to her, freeing Shazaam from his previous master and beginning a lifelong friendship between the genie and the girl. Years later, after her death, that friendship becomes the key to helping her children heal, reconnect with their father, and rediscover the love that still binds their family together.
