The intergluteal cleft (commonly called the booty crack or butt crack) is the vertical groove that runs between the two gluteal muscles (the buttocks). It starts at the base of the lower back, just below the sacrum, and continues downward between the cheeks until it reaches the perineum. The depth and visibility of the cleft vary a lot from person to person depending on body fat, muscle development, posture, and skin tone. In many people it forms a distinct shadowed line; in others it’s shallower or partially obscured by soft tissue. The skin inside the cleft is typically thinner, warmer, and more moist than the surrounding skin because it’s a confined area that doesn’t get much air circulation. Fine hairs or denser body hair can grow along the edges or deeper in the groove, and the area often has a slightly different texture and pigmentation compared to the outer cheeks. That’s the anatomical description.
