Just like people. cats can be smart or dumb. I once had a cat that we called “Sweet But Dumb,” for just that reason. she had the sweetest, friendliest disposition, but she could never figure things out, If her toy rolled behind a door, she would sit and look at the door as if expecting it to come out by itself, but she wouldn’t go look for the toy. I had another cat named TomBob, one of the smartest cats I’ve ever owned, that we called the little cat scientist. He would look at things and you could just see the wheels turning in his cute little head.
