You follows Joe Goldberg, a smart and charming bookstore worker who appears caring and romantic but is actually deeply obsessive and dangerous. Joe becomes fixated on women he believes are perfect for him, and instead of building normal relationships, he stalks them, manipulates people around them, and convinces himself that everything he does is out of love. The story is told largely from Joe’s perspective, which makes viewers understand his thoughts and twisted justifications, even while his actions become increasingly violent and destructive. Throughout the series, Joe constantly changes identities, moves to new places, and tries to escape his past, but he keeps repeating the same cycle of obsession, control, and self-delusion until his crimes eventually catch up to him.
